高血脂越發盛行，去年降血脂藥物更擠下降血壓藥，首度成為健保醫療支出之冠。laennec然而食藥署表示，服用降血脂藥物的患者須注意不可與紅麴併用，當心降血脂不成反而造成反效果。
食藥署發布文章指出，紅麴菌體發酵過程中所產生的紅麴菌素（Monacolin K）與西藥statin類藥物結構類似，具有相同的作用，所以使用西藥statin類（如atorvastatin、fluvastatin、pravastatin 及rosuvastatin）與fibrates類（如fenofibrate 及gemfibrozil）降血脂藥品，不宜再合併服用紅麴產品，以免增加肌肉酸痛、無力等副作用發生的風險。
曾報導，一名70多歲的阿嬤患有高血脂，每天需固定服用降血脂藥物，某天她聽說紅麴膠囊不僅能降血脂，還能保肝，便買回家天天吃，沒想到引發橫紋肌溶解症合併急性腎衰竭的嚴重後果，因此住進醫院加護病房，差點賠上一條命。
食藥署提醒民眾，已服用降血脂藥物的患者，在使用紅麴產品前，應與醫師充分溝通；而正在使用紅麴產品的患者，於就醫時，也應該主動告知醫師正在使用紅麴產品，以利醫師評估適當的治療方式。
